2019: Ebonyi youth group dares Umahi, threatens to vote out lawmaker
The youths of Edda west constituency numbering over 50 at the weekend threatened to vote out Ebonyi lawmaker, Hon. Nkemka Onuma, representing Afikpo South West over alleged incompetence.
The lawmaker was recently endorsed by the state governor Chief David Umahi for re-election in 2019.
The youths, who spoke to journalists in Abakaliki through their leader Mr. Paul Kalu-Mba, said he did not deserve to go back.
He said that Onuma had grossly under-performed and that they cannot afford to allow him waste another four years.
Kalu-Mba alleged that Onuma is not a grassroot politician but an opportunist who was imported from abroad where he had spent a greater part of his life and given the Peoples Democratic Party ticket on a platter of gold.
“Nkemka Onuma is yet to realize he is no longer abroad. Perhaps, that is why he is still finding it hard to fully identify with our people.
“We want a representative who should be grassroot oriented, someone that knows us and our needs very well. Our plights under Onuma today is because he was imported from abroad and imposed on us, but we cannot allow that to continue,” he said.
He claimed that Onuma is the worst performed lawmaker from the constituency since the history of the state and urged him to drop his ambition to avoid incurring the anger of the youths.
He faulted Governor David Umahi for declaring that he would work for the reelection of all the 24 lawmakers of the state Assembly, noting that such declaration if it was anything to go by, would tantamount to encouraging mediocrity in leadership.
Kalu-Mba, however, said Edda west youth were fully in support of Governor Umahi’s reelection bid but warned that any attempt to impose Onuma on them the second time would be vehemently resisted.
