O FFICIAL: Ex-Nigerian defender signs for Finnish club

Former Nigeria defender Taye Taiwo signed for Finnish club Rovaniemi Palloseura (RoPS) on a one-year deal.

The 32-year-old second stint in Veikkausliliga after been done the shirt of HJK Helsinki in 2015 and 2016, he

last featured for Swedish club AFC Eskilstuna.

"Taye is a clear leader and winner on the field. I have known him since our time together with HJK,” RoPS head coach Toni Koskela told the club’s official website.

"He is a very physical player and a good football player. Taye has a strong left foot shot, so he will be an excellent match for our special situations as well.”

Former Lobi star said that the decision to join RoPS was an easy one for him after he was contacted by Koskela who was the assistant coach during his time with HJK.

"I was motivated to work with him again. This is also a real dream job to be a soccer player. You can never know which country you are going to find the next day, and now I can bring my expertise to the Rovaniemi Palloseura,” 

" I’ve already learned that you can not win every match, but each match can give everything.

" In the field, I do not like to give the opponent room to play, I do not want to give the adversary the pleasure they can control, but I want to be the one who plays and controls.” Taiwo he told RoPS’ official website.

Prior to moving to Finland, the left-back represented Lobi star Marseille, AC Milan, Queens Park Rangers, Bursaspor, Dynamo Kiev, HJK Helsinki, Lausanne and AFC Eskilstuna.

Taiwo features 58 times for Super Eagles and scoring eight goals during his 8 years spell with the national team.
