Single Parents Day: 5 Nollywood Single Parents We Love

Single Parents Day: 5 Nollywood Single Parents We Love

Single Parent’s Day is annually celebrated on March 21. It is a day set aside to recognize and applaud the sacrifices made by single parents to provide their children’s needs and cater for their well-being in the face of their work and life’s challenges or other circumstances.

In 1984, an article was written by Janice Moglen with the hope that Single Parent Day may one day gain the recognition many associate with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.  She collaborated with the organization, Parents Without Partners, and began to petition to have states declare recognition of Single Parent Day.

We all know parenting is a tough job and if you are a single parent, your responsibilities are doubled. Managing your work together with the kid(s) and the home demands a great deal of strength and determination, which is why we would like to acknowledge few Nollywood actresses who are single parents and are working tirelessly everyday to raise happy and beautiful children despite their overly demanding job and lifestyles.

IYABO OJO

The widely known Yoruba movie actress is well-respected for effortlessly playing the role of a father and mother to her two lovely kids, Festus and Priscilla. Asides acting, Iyabo is known as an entrepreneur who has a number of business ventures up her sleeves and in spite of her tight schedules, she never toys with her children’s well-being. Festus, her first child, who is presently studying in a University abroad was awarded Best Behaved Student in his set when he graduated from Secondary School.

TONTO DIKEH

Last year, Tonto Dikeh stunned her fans when she stormed her son’s school fully dressed as a man in celebration of Father’s Day because her husband was no longer in the picture. After partying ways with her ex-husband, Tonto has continued to work at being both a great father and mother to her cute son, King Andre. It is worthy of note that the actress who is popularly known as Mama King is immensely enjoying motherhood and is always seen gushing about her son.

UCHE OGBODO

The sultry nollywood actress was one time married to ex-Nigerian footballer, Ato Ubby, though the union was short lived, it produced a beautiful daughter, Chinagorom. Uche once revealed during an interview that her life was more fulfilling as a single mother than as a single girl without a child.

MERCY AIGBE

The fashionista actress had to walk out of her turbulent marriage to hotelier, Ashiwaju Lanre Gentry, after series of accusations ranging from domestic violence to emotional abuse and infidelity. Before her marriage to her estranged husband, the mother of two had her first daughter, Michelle, when she was 22 and she was later blessed with a son, Juwon, in Gentry’s home. Since the separation, she has singlehandedly been taking care of her beautiful kids.

GRACE AMAH

In 2011, the actress popularly known for her role in TV series, Superstory (One Bad Apple) took a break from the industry to welcome her bundle of joy. Though not much is known about her son’s father, she is indeed a selfless parent to her son, Samuel.

Spread the love and celebrate every single parent you know for their strength and courage even with all the stigmatization oftentimes meted out to them.
